Men's Water Polo Update, July 2010
Andover Swimming & Water Polo Club runs water polo teams across all age groups from 6 years old. Junior Water Polo is on Sunday evenings from 6.05 pm until 8.00 pm. The first hour of this session is structured for the younger members and the pool is split into groups according to ability. The second hour is for those who have achieved higher standards and used as progression onto the senior training.
Club nights and senior training is on Mondays and the water polo team trains between 9.30 & 10.30 pm. During the season our ‘home’ games are played at this time. ‘Away’ games are played at various times throughout the week. We currently participate in the Hampshire League and the Lady Richmond Brown tournament.
Emphasis is placed on promoting the sport to young people, and we have managed to have a number of girls and boys picked for to play for the County.
Mini water polo teaching techniques are utilised as an introduction to the sport for our younger members. It is aimed specifically at the 6 - 11 year age group and is played slightly differently to the ‘normal’ game. Anyone within the age group can play and it is designed to help boost water confidence in a fun way under controlled conditions.
We welcome players of either sex, experienced or completely new to the game. It is not essential to be an excellent swimmer, although of course it does help and we always encourage dual participation with the swimming opportunities also available within the club.
Anyone, of any age, who participates in water polo must be a member of Andover Swimming & Water Polo Club. New players are allowed a trial period of one month, after which they will be expected to join and membership includes access to session on club nights held each Monday. Sunday evening training sessions cost are payable on the pool side.
Whilst we take our sport seriously, we are a friendly club and positively encourage people of all abilities and age to become part of it. We do participate in various social functions throughout the year including an annual Christmas presentation evening and disco.
We can’t hope to fulfil our ambitions and plans for the future without new girls, boys, men and women, so if you are interested or would like more information, please contact:-
